Welcome to NECC -2007 (National Educators' Computer Convention)
in Atlanta, Georgia

  • the world's premier ed tech event sponsored by ISTE (International Society for Technology in Edcation)

  • June 24 - June 27

  • Learning and Leading with Technology
Hi, everyone. How exciting it is to be here in Atlanta at the tech convention! There are over 16,000 teachers who have descended on the city. How great it is to network with fellow educators and share ideas and challenges.

As for the conference offerings themselves, there are so many choices that it is quite overwhelming. Over the past couple of days I've been inspired by hearing about all the ways schools are starting to embrace change and find ways to use technology to enhace student engagement and learning.

The keynote speaker, Andrew Zolli, was very entertaining. This futurist examined how with computers taking over more and more complex and repetitive tasks, "what is left to humanity is the essence of creativity." It is up to schools to foster creativity.

The first night of the conference, after Zolli's keynote, we were all supposed to be treated to an evening at the Georgia Aquarium. However, the conference planners had underestimated the number of folks interested in going, and had to turn folks away, me included.
At least I had the pleasure of chatting with Kathy Schrock in the line waiting for the ladies' room. Kathy manages a teriffic website with tons of links for educators. http://school.discovery.com/schrockguide/
Then later as I was heading toward the aquarium, I had the pleasure to meet and speak with David Warlick, a renowned speaker on changing the way we deliver education by using technology.

Well, I keep falling alseep sitting straight up with my fingers on the keyboard, so I'll give up and hopefully post more tomorrow.
